Osprey Are Back
Osprey are the most widespread predatory bird on the planet— and can be found on six of the seven continents. Still, they like places where the weather is warm and the fish are near the surface. When New York turns cold and gray, they make for warmer climes.
Like the cry of the Red-winged Blackbird or the burst of yellow from the daffodil, there is no surer sign of Spring that the chipping cry and white wings of the Osprey. There presence in our parks brings me endless joy, as well as the chance to take some really cool pictures.
Osprey breed in New York— and aren’t picky about where they fish. You can find them near any park with a body of water.
